5 monuments in Georgia

1. The monument of Ali and Nino, Batumi

You probably plan to visit Georgian seaside city, Batumi this summer. If you are at the Black Sea coast of Georgia, do not miss a chance to observe “Ali and Nino”. “Ali and Nino” is a sculptural composition in Batumi overlooking the beaches of the Black Sea coast. 

The monument is a symbol of true love – the statues, Ali and Nino are slowly moving towards each other for about 10 minutes unfil they turn into a single unit. The sculptor was inspired by a love story between a Muslim boy and a Georgian girl described in the novel “Ali and Nino” by Kurban Said.

2. Sculptural citizens on Baratashvili bridge, Tbilisi

Several years ago, the statues of citizens were installed on Baratashvili Bridge. The bridge connects old part of Tbilisi to the modern one. The sculptural humans are in motions, a boy and a girl kissing, a boy who is about to jump over the bridge, a girl sitting on a handrail, others running and standing still. The moving statues bring joy and harmony to the city.

3. The mother of Georgia on Sololaki, Tbilisi

Tourists should not leave Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia without seeing its major symbol “The Mother of Georgia” (Kartvlis Deda). The monument was erected on Sololaki Hill in 1958 to celebrate the 1,500th anniversary of Tbilisi. 

The statue of a woman holds a bowl of wine in one hand and a sword in the other. A bowl of wine is a welcome gesture for Georgia’s friends and a sword is a response to its enemies. The monument overlooks much of the capital. You can reach the monument easily by a cable car.

4. The statue of St. George on freedom Square, Tbilisi

The freedom Monument (St. George Statue) is located on the Freedom Square in Tbilisi. The monument is dedicated to freedom and independence of Georgia. It is made of granite and gold. St. George Statue can be seen from any point of the capital due to its height of 35 meters. The monument reflects St. George fighting the dragon. The battle implies the triumph of the good over the evil. 

5. The statue of David the builder, Kutaisi

You may have heard about the most powerful Georgian King, David the builder (11th- 12th century). The king defeated Seljuk Turks in Didgori Battle, 1121. He made major reforms in army and administration to reunite Georgia and paved the way for the Georgian Golden Age. David the builder is a symbol of united and powerful Georgia. The statue of the king is erected in the legislative city of Georgia, Kutaisi.
