National Tourism Administration develops hiking trails in Georgia

Georgia is well known for it diverse nature and a plenty of places for hiking and camping. Sine these fields of tourism are becoming extremely popular with locals and tourists, National Tourism Administration has started developing new nature trails and marking them. 

The National Tourism Administration of Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development continue the development of hiking routes in Georgia’s regions. 

As reported by National Tourism Administration, they have studied eight regions of Georgia and discovered over 190 hiking trails over last three years.

According to them, at the same time the representatives of the Administration are marking the hiking trails and publishing the information about them on the internet. 

In 2016-2017, 33 hiking trails were marked in the regions Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Racha-Lechkhumi – Qvemo Svaneti. More than 60 hiking trails were created. The overall length of marked trails was 722 kilometers.

As the representatives of the National Tourism Administration say, all the hiking trails were arranged according to Georgian national standards, created in 2015 in collaboration with partner organizations of the agency. 

The information about hiking trails marked in collaboration with USAID project were placed at one of the most famous search platform www.wikiloc.com. The website was created particularly for the adventure routes. It showcases more than 4.76 M tracks for hiking, cycling, sailing, horseback riding, diving...) of many countries. 

The service is also available in Google Earth, what means that the hiking trails of Georgia will be shown on the biggest platform worldwide. It will promote the popularization of Georgia’s hiking routes and attract more visitors in the country. 

The page is registered on wikiloc. com as Georgia and Travel, where the detailed information about marked trails is available in English and Georgian languages. Here one can find all the necessary information for travelers, what makes the trip easier and most importantly, more secure. 

At this stage, the information about approximately 40 hiking trails of various complexity and duration is already uploaded on the website. Gradually, other trails marked by National Tourism Administration will be added to the list. 

Releasing the printed guidebooks of hiking trails is also planned for the future.
