Surami
Surami is a mountain resort surrounded by evergreen coniferous forest. The resort is an ideal place for people who suffer from respiratory diseases, such as Asthma. It is located in eastern Georgia. The town is noted for its fortress bearing an interesting legend about a Georgian who bricks himself up alive to save his country. The fortress has attracted various photographers due to its interesting origin as well as its grand look.
According to the legend the original builders had constant trouble building up a brick wall. No matter how well they laid the bricks, the walls kept crumbling for no apparent reason. A fortune-teller told them that the walls would not hold unless a young man, an only child, was bricked up alive. It was very hard for Zurab’s mother to part with her son, but she agreed to it out of love for her homeland (and a probably touch of old-fashioned pagan beliefs). She was present as her son was being buried alive by the builders, calling to him until he was no longer able to respond.
The legend gives an ominous tinge to the fortress, especially at night. The top of the building overlooks the beautiful resort of Surami. If you decide to breathe fresh air and escape the city’s noise on vacation, then you should definitely go Surami. Don’t miss to drop by the fortress.
